Project summary

Healthy aging of people is a major challenge in 21st century Europe. In 2025 more than 20% of the European population will be 65 or more. In developed countries, it is estimated that 2% of the overall population and 10% of the people older than 60 will be affected by some degree of cognitive decline and this behavior increases with age. Thus, an increasing number of people will need daily assistance to counteract physical or cognitive decline caused by age and the available resourced to attend these people will not be enough in the foreseeable future. On the other hand, most elderly people prefer living independently in their homes and many of them can do it provided they have the adequate assistance to compensate their impairing abilities like memory reduction.

With this scenario, Abada Servicios Desarrollo, Oteara and the University of Sevilla develop this project with the main objective of developing a complete system to monitor elderly people in a non-intrusive way so that unusual behavior caused by physical or cognitive decline can be detected early and before a real risk appears. The system also incorporates mechanisms to measure the physical evolution of the user and the possibility to offer various tale-assistance services so that the user can keep living in an independent way as much as possible or desired.
