Easily deployable smart grid for the independent living of our seniors
Red IntelIgeNte de fácil desplieGue para la vida independiente de nuestros mayores

Summary

With the goal of encouraging active aging in a society where life expectancy is increasing, the University of Seville, represented by the research group «Investigación y Desarrollo Digitalt» (ID2), and in collaboration with «Adaba Servicios Desarrollo» and Oteara, presents the "easily deployable smart grid for the independent living of our seniors" project.

To achieve this goal, it's proposed to deploy a sensor network in the user's home is, which unobtrusively, can monitor certain parameters of the environment, while providing the convenience of a smart home. With these parameters, and through an inference engine, possible changes in the behavior or routines of the user, that may indicate a deterioration of their physical or cognitive status, is regularly reviewed.

In addition, the home is connected remotely to the telecare service proposed so that the user can get help quickly and effectively in caso of potential accidents or emergency situations. At the same time, a rehabilitation service is also offered, that, relying on gamification, helps the user to keep a healthy physical and mental state.
In this context, the contribution ofthe research group ID2 focuses on the development of telecare and rehabilitation services for the user and centers.

Objective

The objectives intended to be achieved by the University of Sevilla in this project are:

» Emergency assistance: Support in resolving user incidents at home, and to notify relatives and emergency services in case of emergency.

» Psychological assistance: Conducting preliminary studies on the psychological evolution of the user. The aim is to detect this change, and where appropriate, make it known to the specialists.

» Rehabilitation: Means shall be provided to serve shots medication reminders and appointments. In addition, it also provides physical and mental exercises to avoid physical and cognitive impairment of the users.

» Recommendations and comfort: Keep users informed of the recommendations made by the various relevant agencies such as drinking more fluids in summer.

Results

The University of Sevilla has undertaken the development of the necessary telecare and rehabilitation software.
The rehabilitation client promotes an active and healthy aging through physical and mental exercises with the use of 3D cameras. An interface for the remote management of the exercises and the user's log is included.

The telecare client is the main user interface; it includes video calls, calendars with audio and textual alarms, shortcuts for quick calls, and a virtual user to show the information of every user of the terminal.

The server telecare is the main core where events produced in every home are processed and managed. At the same time, it allows bidirectional real time communication with the users through a web browser.
